SUMMARY OF TRUSTEES ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Alnwick Community Development Trust is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. In the event of the winding up of the Trust, the liability of a Trustee is limited to £1. The charity is run by volunteer Trustees who ensure that the Trust operates equitably in accordance with its objects.
What are Trustees?
Trustees are the people who are involved in the overall management and decision making in the Trust. Alnwick Community Development Trust employs a Trust Manager and a Project Development Officer, who manage and administer the day to day activities. As a Trustee, you will be involved in monitoring and controlling the work of the Trust through regular meetings and reading reports.
What you need to do
Read the governing document - This is the Trust's Articles of Association, which sets out what the Trust's aims are and how it should be run. This will enable you to monitor the work of the Trust to ensure it carries out its purposes as effectively as possible. You will receive a copy of the governing document when you become a Trustee.
Attend meetings
The Trust holds quarterly meetings including an Annual General Meeting. You will be informed of the date and times. It is important that you attend whenever possible and take part in discussions, as decisions affecting the Trust are taken at these meetings and your input to this process is vital.
Read reports
The Trust will regularly produce material such as Annual reports and Accounts, Financial reports, Project reports, Business Plan, Newsletters, Minutes of meetings etc., that will help you understand what the Trust is doing and how it is performing. You should read these reports. If there is anything you do not understand the Trust Chairman, Manager or Project Development Officer will be happy to talk to you.
Talk to other Trustees
One of the benefits of being a Trustee is the opportunity to meet and talk to other Trustees from a wide range of backgrounds. Existing Trustees can tell you about projects that the Trust is undertaking and issues that affect the Trust and the town so that you understand and can make informed decisions.
What is expected of you
Act in the best interests of the Trust.
Alternatively - you can become a member of the Trust
Membership of the Trust is free. As a member of the Trust you would be kept informed of projects that the Trust is undertaking and would be invited to attend the quarterly meetings and take part in discussions.
If you would like to find out more about becoming a Trustee or member please contact the Trust Manager, Geoff Watson or Project Development Officer, Anne Shilton.
