The Trust Chairman, Gordon Castle said: "On behalf of the Trustees of Alnwick Community Development Trust,Ii am delighted to introduce this report and to ask that you consider its prposals carefully and offer us your comments. It complements the excellent work on Alnwick town centre management produced by the Alnwick Civic Society and offers,I believe, a realistic and achievable set of coordinated but self-contained schemes that could become a blueprint for the future of our town. Alnwick is a compact, historic town with fine buildings and streets, but it has suffered over the yers from changes made to accommodate modern transport that were often grafted on insensitively with little thought for their cumulative effect. We are determined to change that and to plan a course that keeps the town not only functioning in the modern world, but also evolving with a style and appearance befitting its historic staus and setting that meets the rising expectations of residents and visitors."
