Alnwick Ambassadors
Following the success of previous years, the Alnwick Ambassadors project remains a popular way of helping visitors make the most of their time in Alnwick.
The Ambassadors are supported by the District and Town Councils, Alnwick Round Table, Alnwick Castle and Barter Books. This small team of young people offer information and directions to visitors. What do the Ambassadors themselves think of the project? Ambassador, Clare Skelton said: “Working as an Alnwick Ambassador has given me the chance to reconnect with the area where I was born and brought up, making me realise just how much the region has to offer. Having been at university in Dundee for two years, I have had an exciting experience discovering the people and possibilities a new place has to offer - returning home it is great to see family and old friends again but it is easy to take for granted the importance of a place. It is so interesting and rewarding to return to the town and give something back. When visitors stop to ask questions or for directions, these exchanges normally lead onto conversations which range from where the visitor comes from to their views on society and the world today. It is really good as a Northumbrian to meet such diverse and different people who have travelled to my region. So far, I am greatly enjoying being involved in the ambassador scheme. It is rewarding, social and a really proactive way for young people to promote their region.” Rob Prokic, who is awaiting his A level results, said: “I am now in my third year as an Alnwick Ambassador. I really enjoy meeting and greeting visitors to our town and it gives me great satisfaction to help them get the most out of their visit to the area. I hope the warm welcome they receive when they come here will mean they return in the future and spread the word about what a great place Alnwick is.”
The Ambassadors can be seen in the town in their distinctive blue and yellow uniforms during the summer holidays. The project works in close partnership with the Tourist Information Centre who help with supplying the information.
