Renewable Energy
Alnwick Community Development Trust intends to develop a renewable energy project as a community enterprise. The Trusts share of the income from the project will support the Trusts core costs and be used for social, community and regeneration projects in Alnwick and the surrounding area.
At present the conventional use of electricity in Northumberland releases tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. Electricity use is by far the most significant contributor to Northumberlands carbon dioxide footprint. Generating electricity from renewable sources would significantly reduce Northumberlands carbon dioxide emissions.
Income from the project will enable the Trust to sustain and expand its social and regeneration activities and provide a substantial boost to the sustainability of the local community.
Community benefits will include youth services, sport and recreation for the disabled, essential transport for the elderly scheme, senior citizen lunch club, handyman scheme, health and well being advice sessions, baby clinic, crèche facilities, sports coaching, arts & crafts, toy library, community cafe, youth training, employment support services etc.
The project will eliminate the Trusts reliance on grant funding for its core
costs and enable it to focus its efforts on its primary function of
developing and sustaining the local community.
